What's included in my rental car?

Car in IcelandUnlimited mileage and TAX is included. We include winter tires for the winter months.

Our break down service is open 24/7, we strive to replace any broken or damaged vehicle within 24 hours.

What car will I receive?

Jeep 4x4 rental in IcelandYou will be prioritized the model you book with us but in case your car is not available during the pickup we will provide a similar model with the same size and capabilities, for example, if you book the Jeep Renegade 4wd you might get a Ford Kuga 4wd. 

What documents do I need for renting a car?

You need a valid driver’s license, passport and a credit card. A credit card imprint will be taken at the start of all rentals for security reasons, even when a voucher covers the cost of the rental.

This credit card imprint may be used to pay all extra charges as extra insurance, speeding and parking fines, damages or cost, other than specified in the contract, due to lessee's use of the car.

Do you offer extra insurance?

Yes we offer optionally SCDW, GP, TP and SAAP (see insurance policy details).

  • Premium Insurance Package includes SCDW, GP, TP and SAAP, this is a zero excess option. 
  • Standard Insurance Package includes SCDW, GP and TP, this package lowers the excess down to 50.000 ISK.

Accidents/Break downs

4x4 driving in snow IcelandAll our cars are thoroughly inspected and maintained between rentals to ensure safe and problem free rental experience.

In the event of an accident or break down, regardless of circumstance and location, we will do our best to replace the car with another vehicle of a similar standard or better within 24 hours of reported incident.

Iceland 4x4 Car Rental provides assistance in all cases but does not cover fees related to negligence, for example towing, tire replacements, jump-starting flat batteries. 


Please note that our fleet of cars run on gasoline or diesel fuel. We deliver the car with a full tank and the car should be returned with a full tank, if the fuel tank is less than full we will top it off and charge for the extra fuel in addition to a small refill fee according to our price list at any given time.

Drop-Off and pick-up location

All cars are delivered and returned at our office in Keflavík, Vesturbraut 10. (see booking specifics).

How to pick up rental car at KEF international airport

An agent from us will greet you in the arrival hall when you get through customs, holding a iceland4x4carrental sign. He then will escort you via shuttle to our office located 5 km away from the airport where you will get your rental car. See our special page on picking up your vehicle in Keflavik Airport.

Can I take the rental car cross borders?

Leaving Iceland in our rental cars is strictly prohibited.


Local value added tax (VAT) of 24% is included in prices.

Can I cancel a reservation?

Cancellation policy is as follows:

  • Free cancellation 48 hours before the pickup date, after that period no refund is given.
